A beautiful history
Springfield Lake became a popular recreational spot in the early 1900s as Akron families sought a local escape. Carl Wieland’s resort included a bath house, ice cream parlor, and dance hall, quickly making the area a lively summer destination. This era helped shape Springfield Township, with neighborhoods like Sawyerwood and Lakemore developing cottages and homes around the lake’s charm.
